Social Media Intern Turned Sewing Intern

(Navigate slider below)

This week at Bottle Blonde I decided to sharpen up my sewing skills by making a tinsel jacket. At university I did a lot of sewing, especially in second year, so I was able to transfer these skills into making a jacket (even though I was a bit rusty). I started off by sewing strips of tinsel onto sections of material in rows. Then I sewed these sections together. Then I put the lining together, and sewed this onto the jacket. Lastly, I put the binding around the edges, and it was completed. I was really proud of my tinsel jacket, although I'm unsure if I'll be making another any time soon!

On the social media side of things, it was my job this week to Photoshop all our t-shirt slogans onto our new sweaters so they can be put onto the website, which took ages cause we have so many t-shirts. I also photo shopped Bernie Sanders onto a picture with the interns, so it could be used as a meme on the Instagram.

This week in my spare time I've done some more embroidery. The piece above is incomplete, as my plan is to add some flower embroidery above the line of beads, to resemble flowers and their stems, so this time next week it should be done. I've done some more floral line work, and then turned this into a nice repeatable print. Using some print skills I developed in second year, I also made a few more prints, with inspiration from some abstract work I found while looking through Pinterest. I'm enjoying print work, and I'm happy I'm getting better at it, as I want to incorporate print into my final year collection. Lastly, I did work inspired by Freya Niamh Designs, who I follow on Instagram. She does brightly coloured illustrations of landmarks and cities, so I decided to do the same with the view outside my window in Coventry. I've ordered some items this week to do punch needle rugs, so i'm hoping they will come in the next week, so by next time I blog I'll have some rugs that I've started to show.
